Monday morning we had planned to wake up early and make the long drive to
Venice. We didn't get out of the house until 11AM. We arrived in Venice at about
4PM, Checked into our hotel and then wondered around until dinner. After our
overly expensive dinner we decided to reward the boys for being so well behaved
on the drive with some gelato. This was a huge mistake... Peter was up until about
3AM and as soon as he went to sleep Townes woke up.
Having been up all night we decided to go out and explore Venice which was really
fantastic. It was just us and the street sweepers. The city had been engulfed in fog which
gave it a very erie and timeless feel. On our way back to the car we walked through a
market which had the most beautiful looking produce and all sorts of fresh seafood.
Over all the trip to Venice was a big disappointment as we didn't make it into any
museums. I think we will have to make a second trip to visit some of the museums
and the island of Burano before we leave Italy.
We also learned that bring a baby in a stroller to Venice is pretty hellish with all of the
stairs and bridges, which meant we had to carry Townes and his stroller over each little
bridge. We then piled back into our mud spattered Saxo for the drive to Lugano Switzerland.
For the first time on our trip they both fell a sleep in the car at the same time, this didn't last
long.
